Smart routing is a technology that enables merchants to easily define, customise and track how transactions are processed according to their needs.
The system allows to configure processing rules based on payment attributes – such as currency or payment method – that allow to determine the processing path for each transaction by selecting an acquirer and defining failed payments management.
Smart routing feature is available for customers who have subscribed the Payment Orchestra™ service and can be accessed in the Payment Settings section of the Axerve Dashboard. Here routing rules for payment processing can be created and managed.
A smart routing rule consists of the configuration of a payment processing path and will be applied to a specific Shop login’s transactions presenting common attributes defined during the creation of the rule.
Rule creation steps:
Please refer to the FAQ about how to create a new rule for detailed information on the steps listed above.
After completing all steps, it is possible to save the rule.
However, for the rule to actually become effective, it must be activated when saving or from the rules list by clicking on the specific toggle. Otherwise, it can be kept in suspended mode.
Only one rule can be active at a time per enabled Shop Login. Therefore, if a new rule is activated, the one currently in use will automatically be suspended.
The name, activation status and internal logic of the rule can be changed at any time. However, while rules are viewed by all user roles in Dashboard, only Administrator and Manager are given editing authorisation.
Rules can also be deleted and consequently removed from the 'Rules' list in the Smart routing section of the Dashboard. Once deleted, the rule cannot be restored. As for editing, rule deleting authorisation applies only to Administrator and Managers.
Rule performance and its effects on the management of payments can be analysed by generating customised reports in the Reports section of the Dashboard. In fact, each transaction processed via smart routing displays the rule and the acquirer through which it was processed, even after the rule has been deleted.
The identifiers Rule Name, Rule ID and Rule Version can be selected as template fields when creating a report, so that the rule effectiveness can be analysed in a customised file to allow changes to be made accordingly.
Please refer to the dedicated FAQ for more details about Smart routing data analysis and reporting.
